In 2021, screenwriter and director Quentin Mistral Tomshire created the Salle de sport, a writing workshop dedicated to the development of projects based on collective support and mutual emulation. Inspired by his experience in various writing workshops and his desire to stop writing alone, Quentin brought together a group of screenwriters and filmmakers from the Geneva and Lausanne film departments to create a space for collaboration and exchange on each other’s creative projects.

The founding idea is simple: participants meet every two months to help each other out, and thanks to a monthly membership fee – just like at the gym – the group hires script consultants to feed their collective reflections. Over the course of the workshops, the Gym’s methodology is refined, nourished by the experiences gathered and the various tools tested and proven by the collective.

In 2023, the Salle de Sport received financial support from Suissimage and the SSA, with the aim of sharing its methodology and perpetuating its workshops so that as many people as possible could benefit from them.

The same year, La Salle de Sport launched its first call for projects for the Long Program. With over 70 projects received for the 9 places available, the response to the first call for projects attests to the need and demand from writers and filmmakers for such a collective work space, and above all to the community’s need to surround itself with plural methods and viewpoints to move forward in the perilous exercise of writing for the long form.

The workshop, coordinated by Quentin Mistral, is today supported and steered by a constitutional committee. The team is made up of Marion Chollet, producer, Alice Riva, programmer and producer, and Carmen Jaquier, scriptwriter and director.
